Special green tea Japanese Sencha produced accordingly to the
Japanese tradition from tealeaves of the first flush perfectly reflects exquisite simplicity and
harmony of Japanese culture. Japan is a country of paradoxes. Japanese culture includes
things and concepts that are mutually exclusive for the European mind. For example, Japanese own
thousand-year old customs go hand in hand with surprising ability to adopt, assimilate and develop
traditions of other people. Emphatic politeness and belligerence of the samurai sword, rapid
development of high technologies and aspiration for inner peace through contemplation of calmness
and splendour of nature – these are characteristic features of Japan. Yet, Japanese culture is
famous for the grace of all its elements – be it poetry, clothes, furniture or traditional green
tea. Tea ceremony, art of ikebana, poetry and contemplation of nature are united in one and single
whole – the fine arts of leisure. Sencha tea is an essential part of this fine arts of leisure
culture. Technology of sencha production is a peculiar page in the Japanese tea culture. For several
days before plucking tea bushes are shaded with cane or bamboo covers to increase the aroma
intensity. Then tea leaves are treated with steam and slightly flattened. Appearance of sencha is
similar to sharp green needles. Insular location of the plantations, special climate conditions and
soil composition – all contribute to the original flavour of this tea that gives us a chance to
enjoy special “buttery” flavour and fine aroma of sea breeze. At first the bouquet may seem a bit
too complex for European taste but cup by cup Japanese sencha will reveal to you all depths of
refined simplicity and harmony.
